Blacktown City Football Club (FC) boasts a 70-year history of representing the city that shares its name and is the defending NSW Football Champions.
At the beginning of the 2023 season, they proudly announced a long-term partnership with Walker Corporation as their ‘Principal Partner’ for both the Senior Men and Senior Women teams. This partnership is in line with the philosophy of Blacktown City to create a sporting icon for the city it represents. Walker Corporation’s commitment to transforming places is aligned with Blacktown City’s vision to build on its reputation, history, and culture.
Chairman Bob Turner expressed his excitement about the partnership, saying, “The Walker attitude of seeing an opportunity where others simply see a challenge is the same vision we have to build on the reputation, history, and culture Blacktown City has developed over our 70-year history.”
In addition to the partnership with Walker Corporation, Blacktown City announced long-term partnerships with Momento Hospitality, Blacktown Council, and a new naming Rights partner for their home stadium. Chairman Turner expressed his delight in securing four main partnerships for the 2023 season and beyond, stating that they provide not only financial support but also the credibility of mainstream business groups to attract the wider corporate community to get involved.
On the field, Blacktown City has had a challenging start to the season, losing three key strikers in the first three weeks, including talented and experienced Mitch Mallia, who suffered a career-ending foot injury. Coach Mark Crittenden has always relied heavily on his bench and younger players, and Jack O’Brien has stepped up and scored eight goals in the first part of the season. Captain Mario Shabow is also a crucial player for Blacktown, controlling the centre of the pitch to set up scoring opportunities for Travis Major and others.
The Blacktown City Senior Women are in their second season in the NSW competition, with the goal of elevating to the top NSW division within the next three years. The team is led by Head of Women’s Football, David ‘Dok’ O’Keefe, and is currently sitting in the middle of the pack in the NPL 2 division.
Sadly, Blacktown City recently lost a legend of the club and Life Member, Graham Crawhall, who was the Senior Team Manager for 13 years and the best friend of Mark Crittenden, Head of Football. Graham saw Blacktown play their 2022 Championship game at Comm Bank Stadium, and he was the recipient of the Valentine Medal in 2022 by Football NSW.
Blacktown City FC’s next home game is against their arch-rival Rockdale Ilden FC on Sunday 14 May, at Landen Stadium, with the Under 20 Men’s game starting at 1:00 pm and the main game at 3:00 pm.
